We are delighted to be able to offer two School of Arts and Cultures Bursaries to study on the Master of Fine Art (MFA) course. These are £3000 a year for two years, available to new students (UK applicants only).

Also, one Edward David and Mary Forshaw MFA Bursary of £3000 a year for two years available as part of the Forshaw Student Endowment designed to provide support and long-term benefit to women students (UK, EU and International).


The Forshaw Endowment, Newcastle University and the School of Arts and Cultures, Newcastle University.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for any of the MFA Bursaries you must have already applied to the Master of Fine Art at Newcastle University through the online portal and received an offer of a place by July 26 2019.  

Only women applicants who have been offered a place and have registered on the course are eligible to apply for the Forshaw MFA Bursary. We are trans inclusive.

Students ineligible to receive scholarship awards are those who fail to fulfil any condition attached to the offer of a place, for example IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in all sub-skills, or recognised equivalent, receipt of a copy of passport, receipt of satisfactory reference, transcript of qualifications. Existing MFA students are not eligible to apply.

Payment is made only after registration and payment of fees for Year 1 have been made.  The bursary is paid in 3 instalments throughout the year. Payment of the year 2 bursary will be made only on successful completion of Year 1 and payment of fees for Year 2.

How to apply

  • Newcastle and non-Newcastle students are eligible to apply to the MFA. You do not need to wait for your undergraduate degree classification to apply.
  • Candidates should normally hold a good undergraduate degree (2:1 Honours or higher) or equivalent.
  • Applicants who hold non-standard qualifications, and/or have relevant experience, will be considered on an individual basis.
