Worldwide applications are invited for a research assistant professorship in thin film physics, in Prof. Pin Fan’s research group, College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Shenzhen University, China. The position is open until filled.

Dr. Ping Fan, the group leader, Professor of College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Shenzhen University, Director of the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Advanced Thin Films and Applications. Based on the Key Laboratory Platform, various projects including the National Natural Science Foundation Project, the Ministry of Science and Technology Major Project are being undertaken with abundant research funds. The research group covering a laboratory area of more than 1000 m2, including Class 1000 Cleanroom of 250 m2 and Class 100 Cleanroom of 50 m2. It has complete thin film fabrication and characterization equipment, especially for film-based photovoltaic and thermoelectric and acoustic wave sensors application. We have published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals like Energy Environmental Science, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Nanoscale, Progress in photovoltaic, Solar energy materials and solar cells, Applied Physics Letter etc. also with 12 authorized China invention patents and other 7 patents of Japan, the USA and the EU.

As one of the key comprehensive universities in China, Shenzhen University (SZU) consists of 25 colleges, offering 80 undergraduate programs as well as a wide range of MSc and PhD programs in the areas of sciences, engineering, medicine, and philosophy etc. The university has about 3000 faculty staff and an enrolment of over 34,000 fulltime students from over 20 countries across the world. By providing a large amount of funds, Shenzhen municipality is fully committed to the development of SZU towards a world-class research-intensive university. Situated next to Hong Kong, Shenzhen has often been referred to as the “Silicon Valley of China”, which is an incubator and headquarter for many world-leading telecommunication, biotechnology, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) companies.

Research Directions:

  1. Copper-based thin film solar cells (including CZTSe, CZTS, CZTSSe thin film solar cells)
  2. Sb2Se3, Sb2S3 and Sb2(SSe)3 thin film solar cells
  3. Preparation and application of thermoelectric films
  4. Thermoelectric materials and wearable micro thermoelectric devices
  5. Acoustic wave microfluidics and sensors using low-dimensional smart thin film materials

Applicant requirements:

  1. PhD completed, or to be completed soon, in Energy or Material Science
  2. Applicants who have published high level scientific papers are preferred.

Terms and Conditions of Employment:

  1. Salaries and allowances: no less than RMB 320K/year (1 USD = 6.8 RMB)
  2. The positions are initially for 3 years, renewable following an academic performance review.
  3. Special welfare and allowance provided by Shenzhen University, including housing subsidies.
  4. Start-up research grants from 3 million RMB to 5 million RMB funded by Shenzhen Municipality.
  5. Financial support of overseas and domestic travels for conferences and research collaborations.
  6. Bonus for publications affiliated with Shenzhen University: 30,000 RMB per class-A (JCR Q1) paper, or 10,000 RMB for class-B (JCR Q2) paper, with no upper limit of total sum.
