The School wishes to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative individual to the role of Senior Lecturer in Health Data Science based in the Division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Science. The purpose of the job is to deliver research that have a lasting impact on health and care and research-led education and training in health data science. You will use and develop novel methodologies to extract information from medical data and use it to improve healthcare by helping to understand, diagnose, monitor or treat disease. It is expected that research will be disseminated widely and will have significant impact on disease understanding, diagnosis, treatment or management. New funding will be sought to maintain and grow self-sustaining research. They will also be expected to contribute to and develop undergraduate teaching, postgraduate teaching and supervision and professional training as well as undertake any associated management and administrative duties.

The Division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Science covers a broad spectrum of research including medical and biological imaging, health informatics and aspects of systems biology as well as developing new methodologies. The post will be part of the Centre for Health Informatics led by Professor Ainsworth which has an international reputation with a broad portfolio in digital health research. Research includes big data, IoT, precision medicine, epidemiology, citizen driven health, public health, clinical trials and learning health systems. We are interested in methods and technology to enable digital phenotyping and identification of digital biomarkers. We collaborate closely with our NHS partners and industry to apply our research and deliver impact. Our Health eResearch Centre (HeRC) is internationally recognised and we are the home of the Connected Health Cities programme across the North of England.

You should have a PhD in a field related to data science and a sustained track record of both authorship of papers in high quality peer-reviewed journals and of securing grant funding. Significant and demonstrable experience of enabling applied health data science through the application of state-of-the-art methods is essential along with a broad knowledge of modern methods for interdisciplinary applied health research. Demonstrable experience in the delivery of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels is also required.
