The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to supervise undergraduate and masters dissertations. The person appointed will be expected to conduct original research in appropriate fields and play a lead role in collaborative research projects, leading to high quality publications and grant income. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist with the administration of the Faculty of Science and Engineering in general and thus contribute to the School’s growth in the field of Aerospace Engineering.

This post is related to the teaching of undergraduate / postgraduate courses in the field of Aircraft/Airframe Design and Materials. The teaching content will cover aspects related to 1) Aircraft/Airframe Design and Structures and 2) Aerospace Materials.
Aircraft structure topics include 1) introduction to airframes, 2) shear stress beams, deflection and conditions, thin-walled structures, 3) static and fatigue failures etc…
Aerospace Materials topics include 1) the introduction of materials used in aerospace structures and engines, 2) the properties, manufacturing, life consumption and degradation of these materials in the aerospace context 3) the processing and testing of these materials etc…

The successful candidate will be expected to have extensive research experience and expertise in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on Aircraft Design and/or Airframe Design. Candidates with expertise in structure design are highly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to join the Advanced Intelligent Manufacturing Research Group (AIMRG) which is a leading, research group in the areas of smart manufacturing processes for high-value industries (e.g. aerospace, automotive, energy materials, medical devices, optical systems, high precision moulding), controllable production processes for energy materials, intelligent supervision and control of manufacturing processes to enable high-throughput of high-value products with minimum defects and energy wastage, automated and flexible manufacturing production systems that minimise that are able to easily adapt to various products specifications with limited human intervention. The AIMRG group is a growing research group aiming to achieve world-recognised status in the field of advanced intelligent manufacturing processes in the next 5 years.

Salary will be within the range of £36,261 to £48,677 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of five years starting from September 2019. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
