Job description

A research fellowship is available in the field of computational rotor/helicopter aerodynamics and aeroacoustics at Aerodynamics Acoustics and Noise control Technology Centre (AANTC), HKUST. The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in developing computational rotor/helicopter aerodynamics and noise research within the group. The initial appointment is initially for two years and renewable. The research areas may include one or more of the fields listed below:

  • Numerical models for helicopter flow characteristics and main noise source identification.
  • Numerical simulations of rotor/helicopter noise sources.
  • Numerical optimization of rotor blade profile for low-noise and aerodynamic performance.
  • Bio-inspired flow control devices towards enhancing rotor/helicopter aerodynamics and reducing noise emission.

Key responsibilities can be in one or more fields below:

  • Develop and optimize numerical methods or analysis tools.
  • Design and conduct computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational aeroacoustics (CAA) simulations.
  • Work with research assistant(s) and students.

Key requirements:

  • PhD in either mechanical, aerospace engineering, or other, relevant engineering disciplines, and /or mathematics with relevant background research experience.
  • Experience in using CFD and CAA software and developing codes.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics and fluid dynamics.
  • Technical report writing in English.
  • Fluency in English (required) and Mandarin (desirable).

Aerodynamics Acoustics and Noise control Technology Centre (AANTC)

The AANTC centre is led by Prof. Xin Zhang and it is based in the School of Engineering, which has a strong international reputation and consistently ranks highly among the top engineering schools. At the AANTC academic staff, research fellows and PhD students work together to develop advanced computational codes, noise prediction software and noise reduction concepts to provide engineering solutions for industry. The centre possesses a suite of high-order computational aeroacoustic codes, and various noise and flow facilities. The group has an extensive global network of academic links and industry collaborations. For current projects and research at the AANTC, please see http://aantc.ust.hk.
