Jilin Normal University (JLNU) invites applications for short-term instructors to teach one or more undergraduate courses in Environmental Engineering (listed below) for 8 weeks in Fall semester 2019. JLNU also welcomes applications for short-term instructors in Spring/Summer semester 2020 in the same fields. Candidates will be working in Siping, Jilin Province, northeast China. 

Course List:

  1. Introduction to Environmental Science–This course acquaints the students with the basic concept and the most important principles of environmental science. It helps us understand the relationship between human activity and environmental quality. Students will understand the resource utilizing status, future development and global and current situation of environment in China, as well as the hazards of environmental problems to human survival and development.
  2. Environmental Management – Environmental Management offers research and opinions on use and conservation of natural resources, protection of habitats and control of hazards, spanning the field of environmental management without regard to traditional disciplinary boundaries.
  3. Environmental Applications of GIS - Students will examine contemporary ideas, approaches, and challenges of environmental modeling with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). They will accumulate experiences in environmental analysis using GIS theories and tools, involving GIS representation, analysis, and presentation. The direct course objectives are for students to appreciate how the biophysical environment has been and could be modeled with the assistance of GIS, to learn how scientific research has been conducted in a GIS-based environmental modeling context, and to practice using various environmental models. Students will also develop their skills in handling GIS data, using GIS tools, and managing GIS projects. 


  • Master's degree in environmental engineering, or closely related fields is required for undergraduate instruction.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English. English native speaker is preferred;
  • Patient and enthusiastic for teaching with high sense of responsibility;
  • Ideally more than 3 years’ teaching or training experience is preferred;
  • Understanding American higher education system, test methods and requirements.
