Job Purpose:

To provide lecturing and teaching support at UoSM within the Mechanical Engineering degree programme. To undertake research both independently, and in collaboration with existing research groups within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, at the main University campus in Southampton, UK, and also with Universities within the region. 

Successful candidates would be expected to deliver at least two Mechanical engineering modules like vibrations, dynamics, fluid mechanics, control engineering and structures. Candidates who are about to finish their PhD degree can also apply.

The appointee will be expected to develop links with one or more research groups at the UK campus, and also with the teams responsible for delivery of Parts I and II of the Mechanical Engineering programme at Southampton, which is being replicated at UoSM. 

Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities 

  1. Develop an independent research portfolio in a relevant area, including publishing research in high quality journals and presenting at international conferences.
  2. Apply for external funding to support research activities.
  3. Supervise post-graduate and post-Doctoral researchers.
  4. Support current teaching needs within UoSM, through lectures, tutorials, practicals and seminars at the highest quality.
  5. Directly supervise students, providing expert advice on learning best practice and helping with learning problems.
  6. Participate in administrative duties of UoSM as required, by the line manager or Head of Academic Affairs.
  7. Establish research and other collaborations with Universities in the region.

Internal & External Relationships: (nature & purpose of relationships) 

  • Establish academic collaborations within the parent University in the UK, and externally to support research activities.
  • Establish collaborations with industry and Universities in the region to support research activities.
