The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking to appoint a Teaching Laboratory Technician to assist in running and organising the Plant Sciences Teaching Lab.

The role-holder will provide assistance with the preparation and setting up of large practical classes for a range of courses eg 1A Physiology of Organisms and 1B Plant & Microbial Sciences. They will contribute to preparation of the required media, plant material and equipment. During practical classes, they will answer queries and provide support to undergraduate students in the operation of specialised equipment and related techniques. They will also look after plant material grown in the teaching greenhouse and at the Department's Plant Growth Facility, located at the Botanic Garden.

The role-holder will also assist with running practical classes in other Departments for interdepartmental courses.

The successful candidate will be educated to A-Level standard or equivalent, preferably in Biology, with good IT ability. They will possess excellent problem-solving and manipulative skills. They will be a strong communicator, able to work independently and within a team, often under pressure.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 June 2021 in the first instance.
