Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the MeerTRAP project, funded by the European Research Council. MeerTRAP will undertake fully commensal searches for pulsars and fast radio transients with the MeerKAT telescope in South Africa.
Based in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manchester, the MeerTRAP project team is embedded in the Pulsar and Time Domain Astronomy group. The group’s scientific interests include high precision pulsar timing for gravitational wave and gravity research, fast radio burst discovery and follow up, novae and exoplanets. This group is at the forefront of development and exploitation of the next generation of radio telescopes and co-leads the international team developing the pulsar and fast transient search capabilities of the SKA.
The post holder will work on developing and scientifically exploiting a commensal fast transient and pulsar search capability on MeerKAT. Applicants should have a PhD in Astronomy, have a good knowledge of radio astronomy and experience with development and use of fast transient and pulsar hardware and software. A strong record of publication in this field is essential.
