The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Chief Finance and Planning Officer for the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC).

The University of Nottingham is seeking an exceptional leader. You will be a qualified accountant with demonstrated strategic operational leadership and will be comfortable working and delivering across cultures to multiple stakeholders. You will have an attention to detail and the ability to articulate and advocate the University’s positions both internally and externally while working globally in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Nottingham campuses in the UK and Malaysia.

Reporting to the Provost at UNNC, the Chief Finance and Planning Officer will play a critical role in developing and implementing the strategies covering Finance, Strategy and Planning, Procurement, IT and Estates, Human Resources and Sport for UNNC. The post holder will be a member of the UNNC’s Management Board.

The appointee will be tasked with the following responsibilities (but not be limited to):

  • To define the overall aims and objectives within the portfolio at UNNC (in consultation with relevant stakeholders), and to devise, implement and evaluate the strategies and plans for their successful attainment
  • Responsible for overseeing all accounting, procurement, and finance responsibilities at UNNC ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory, and audit requirements
  • Responsible for overseeing the delivery of UNNC’s people strategy in compliance with legal, regulatory and audit requirements
  • Overseeing the long-term budgetary, planning and costs management in alignment with the University strategic plan, and to assess the associated organisational performance
  • To develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the Provost and Management Board members and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations

With a CPA or ACCA qualification, you will have proven strategic planning skills, strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model. You will need to be an effective communicator at all levels in the organisation and possess strong people management and change management skills.

We are looking for someone with extensive senior management experience that includes leading multiple professional service functions within an international organisation. You should also have demonstrable experience of evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to an executive board, and experience in strategic planning within a complex organisation. It is essential that you are self-driven and results-oriented with the ability to react rapidly to changes and be creative in problem-solving.
