Assistant Professor of
ANTHROPOLOGY/SOCIOLOGY OF GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT
starting on 1 September 2020 or a mutually agreed-upon date.
The Institute is seeking to recruit a scholar – woman or man – at the rank of assistant professor. Candidates must have a teaching and research track in gender studies with a focus on countries of the South. The Institute is particularly interested in scholars whose work provides a critical perspective on developmentand on themes such as labour, migration, care/informal economy and social reproduction, drawing on postcolonialstudies. Candidates should be able to innovatively engage with one or more of these substantive themes in a global perspective.
Candidates are expected to have an excellent background in anthropology and/or sociology and be interested in interdisciplinary dialogue. They must hold a PhD in Anthropology or Sociology prior to the start of their contract.
The successful candidate will teach postgraduate courses and supervise master’s dissertations and PhD theses in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology. She or he will also be called upon to teach classes and supervise master’s dissertations in the Institute’s interdisciplinary programmes and possibly contribute to executive education programmes.
The teaching language is either English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of it within two years of being hired.
