Edinburgh Business School (EBS) is the graduate school of business of Heriot-Watt University. We are one of the world's largest providers of postgraduate business education. EBS at Heriot-Watt University is undergoing a process of expansion in terms of research activity and research capacity. As a consequence we are seeking to fulfil two funded, full-time PhD students.
The Centre for Networks and Enterprise
There will be two PhD bursaries for scholars interested in conducting research under the auspices and supervision of staff associated with the Centre for Networks and Enterprise (CNE). The Centre is currently supporting research on gender and boardroom interlocks, social entrepreneurship, finance syndication and careers. CNE research is aimed at supporting people to achieve their potential and facilitating business to optimise operations.
We are looking for highly motivated researchers who have training in quantitative and qualitative methods in social research. The PhD researchers will be associated to the Centre for Networks and Enterprise and will be supervised by Professor Gareth Peters and Dr Dimitris Christopoulos or other appropriate staff from MACS and EBS. Applications are particularly encouraged with proposals in social network analysis, systems analysis, finance networks and network resilience. CNE currently conducts a number of network science projects, details of which can be found here. Along the way, you will be encouraged to publish, before completing your thesis and viva voce.
Funding and Application
Applicants should supply a CV, copies of their award certificates and transcripts (meeting the above entry criteria), a motivation letter and a short proposal outline (no more than 3 pages) for a research project that will clearly identify the research question and proposed modes of inquiry.
Both studentships include a tuition fee waiver for PhD at UK/EU fees and a stipend at £14,553 for three years. In order to be eligible for a Heriot Watt PhD, Shortlisted applicants must have the equivalent of a 1st class honours undergraduate degree, or a Masters degree with an average mark of 65% or higher and a dissertation mark of 65% or higher. Please note that possession of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee shortlisting for interview. Applicants should supply a CV, a motivation letter and a short proposal outline (no more than 3 pages) for a research project that will clearly identify the research question and proposed modes of inquiry.
