We are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced Licenced Animal Technician to provide hands on animal care ensuring high levels of welfare and maintenance of animal colonies, ensuring daily routines undertaken to the required standard.

The role will have an element of administrative (office based) duties, but will heavily involve working with animals by providing ‘hands on’ training, assessing and animal husbandry as required. The post holder will also be required to provide technical support to researchers.

With guidance and support from the Head of BRF, the person appointed will be required to;

Carry out routine husbandry duties, including the maintenance of breeding colonies. Understand and maintain site and personnel movement restrictions and biosecurity systems. Proficient in multiple technical procedures in specific with rodents. Provide assistance, training and assessing (as required) to all persons working within the facility. Weekend and Bank Holiday work

The successful candidate will amongst other attributes, have:

·         IAT Level 2 or equivalent Qualification

·         Home Office Personal Licence

·         Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team

·         Accuracy and attention to detail

·         Excellent people skills

·         Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

·         Strong organisational and time management skills

·         Ability to follow detailed instructions

·         Proven database and record keeping skills

·         Commitment to excellence

·         Committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The post is subject to security clearance and health surveillance being successfully completed
