Psychology, Faculty of Natural Sciences is seeking to hire a full-time Post-Doctoral Research Assistant, with expertise conducting cognitive-experimental psychology research among individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This position will involve working alongside Dr. Catherine Grainger on an Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) funded project entitled ‘Remembering to remember: What techniques can be used to improve prospective memory in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)?’.
This research project will explore prospective memory skills among individuals with ASD. Prospective memory (PM) refers to the ability to remember to perform an intended action at an appropriate future time, and is fundamental for independent living. Specifically, this project aims to explore a) the underlying cognitive correlates of PM, and b) the efficacy of prospective memory training among individuals with ASD. Studies carried out during the project will explore these topics among children and adults with ASD, using a range of experimental research methods.
The advertised Post-Doctoral Research Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day running of this project, and will assist the principle investigator with study design, preparing study material, completing data collection, statistical analysis and writing up research papers for publication. The successful candidate will also be responsible for recruiting child and adult participants, with and without ASD, and managing a participant dataset. It is expected that the successful applicant will have a strong background in high-quality empirical psychology research, ideally among individuals with ASD, and/or focusing on the topic of prospective memory.
