The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development and is one of the leading research institutes in Europe. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies, with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics, and in vivo models.

Our innovative and ambitious research themes focus on understanding the regulation of the tumour microenvironment and cancer metabolism, in particular:

  • Intrinsic cancer cell vulnerabilities
  • Interplay between the tumour microenvironment, metastasis and recurrence
  • Biology of early disease, aimed at developing a ‘Precision Prevention’ approach

We have two positions open for dedicated researchers as Senior Scientific Officers (SSO) in the Transgenic Models Lab which has an expertise in in vivo models of cancer. You will participate in different collaborative and independent research projects, contributing to their development experimentally and intellectually and carry out a variety of cellular and molecular approaches. These posts include hands-on research and lab-management tasks.

You will have a relevant degree or PhD and/or significant research experience using in vivo models on a regular basis, with particular emphasis on genetically engineered models.  A proven record of in vivo techniques and possession of a Home Office personal licence is essential. Strong skills in cell and molecular biology are required, including western blotting and cell culture.  Good organisational and people skills will be hugely important as is the ability to multitask.  Previous experience of lab management is desirable while knowledge or experience of IVIS bioluminescence or in vivo imaging would be advantageous.
