A position exists for a Research Associate in Graphene-Based Mode-Locked Lasers for Coherent Raman Imaging.
The aim is to develop an innovative mode-locked dual-colour fibre laser system for accurate fingerprinting of tumour tissues through coherent Raman imaging. The outcome of this project will have a significant impact on healthcare, as it will improve the accuracy of early-stage tumour detection and lead to better prognoses. The ideal candidate should have proven hands-on experience in nonlinear and ultrafast optics, with a particular emphasis on mode-locked lasers and fibre lasers. The candidate will interact with a dynamic start-up company which aims at commercialization of the developed laser technology within a European Research Council Proof of Concept Grant.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Applied Physics or Material Science with a proven track record in ultrafast photonics and nanotechnology, including processing, fabrication, characterization, integration and application of graphene-related materials (GRMs) for ultrafast photonics and optoelectronics. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record in ultrafast lasers based on GRMs and fabrication, characterization and integration of GRMs for ultrafast photonics and optoelectronics, as demonstrated by publications in major journals. A solid understanding of ultrafast and non-linear optics and GRM physics is required.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD.
Salary Range: Research Associate: £32,816 - £40,322
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
