The Light-Matter Interactions for Quantum Technologies Unit (https://groups.oist.jp/light) at OIST Graduate University invites applications for a postdoctoral or staff scientist position in the area of whispering gallery resonators for sensing or nonlinear optics applications. The position is for a start in early 2020 and the duration is dependent on the candidate’s background but can be up to three years. For those with significant experience post PhD, the appointment may be at staff scientist level (fixed duration). Essential qualifications are a PhD in Physics or Optical Engineering with an excellent publication record, and fluency in written/spoken English. The successful candidate should also have proven ability to think independently, conduct novel research, and work within a team.
The candidate must have experimental experience working with WGM resonators, tapered optical fibres or prism coupling.
OIST is a relatively new graduate university located on the main island of Okinawa. Our research spans a number of areas, but our particular interests are exploiting the properties of structured or confined light to manipulate small particles. Our research group is very well-funded, we’ve recently acquired new lab space, and we are a very international team currently represented by 17 different nationalities. English is the language used for all official business at OIST.
Commencement date and conditions: January 2020. The position is for 1-2 years initially with further extension upon satisfactory progress. We offer a competitive salary, relocation & benefits package, including health insurance.
