The Institute of Archaeological Studies, Faculty of History of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for a

Professorship for Classical Archaeology with a Focus on Settlements and Landscapes in the Mediterranean in Antiquity (German Salary Scale W3)

to start on 1 April 2020.

The successful candidate will be able to cover the field of Classical Archaeology as a historical discipline based on the material heritage of the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean in its entirity. In addition to the core areas of this field, candidates should also be able to demonstrate a focus on contact cultures (Phrygians, Etruscans, Iberians et al.) and processes of exchange in both teaching and research and have experience in archaeological field research of both settlements and landscapes.

The future post holder will be expected to cooperate extensively with his or her colleagues within the faculty and its institutes as well as in ongoing research foci at the RUB. He or she should be willing to work in an international and interdisciplinary context and to contribute actively to collaborative research projects. He or she should also have a proven track record in working with colleagues to develop new perspectives and projects for larger research groups and to bring in the necessary third party funding. A high commitment to teaching both undergraduate and graduate students is essential.

Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. Habilitation) or significant post-doctoral research contributions and teaching experience are as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB.
