IT Specialist

University of Cambridge - MRC Cancer Unit, Cambridgeshire

The Hutchison/MRC Research Centre is an established centre focused on the earliest steps in cancer progression and exploit this knowledge to improve early diagnosis and effective treatment cancer research. The Research Centre houses both the MRC Cancer Unit and components of the Department of Oncology. This role is a jointly funded MRC/University position held within the MRC Cancer Unit.

We are seeking appoint an IT specialist to join the Centre's IT team to provide IT and computing support for an integrated IT services to facilitate the research and administration of the Centre. The role holder would part of a collaborative multi-skilled team which actively encourages staff to find ways improve and develop services.

Applicants are expected to hold a degree in a relevant subject, or demonstrable skills and track record of supporting, managing and maintaining enterprise IT systems. We are looking for applicants who can work confidently in at least two of the following areas:

  • High Performance Cluster/Linux Administration
  • Microsoft Windows Server environments (AD, DNS, DHCP, Hybrid Exchange 2016, etc)
  • Installing and managing NAS, SAN's and NFS storage servers
  • Remote Services VPN, Xenapp/XenDesktop
  • Microsoft System Configuration Manager
  • Hyper-V 2012 onwards
  • Network Layer2/3 and 802.1x
  • Office 365

For the successful candidate, training opportunities will be available to manage and administer the current infrastructure and review newer technologies.
