Opportunities at the University of Nottingham in Ningbo China

Join a unique British University in China. The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. This award winning campus offering a UK style education has grown to establish a student body of over 8,000 in just 15 years.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China, a pioneer in Sino-foreign tertiary education, is rapidly expanding. It is looking for ambitious, talented academics with a passion for teaching as well as research flair to join its team of economists. UNNC is part of the University of Nottingham’s Global University, and offers unique teaching and research opportunities in a highly dynamic economy.

The School of Economics at UNNC offers a ‘BSc International Economics and Trade’ and a ‘BSc Economics’, with an ‘MSc Finance and Investment (Economics, Money and Finance)’ and a PhD n Economics. It currently comprises 22 full time members of staff with two part time Li Dak Sum Chair Professors and an additional five posts being filled for the coming academic year. The student population is 720 and looking to expand at the postgraduate level. 87 percent of our undergraduates last year proceeded with further studies in well recognised Universities of English-speaking countries. All programmes match well-established programmes running in the UK and benefit from shared resources with our campuses in UK and Malaysia. Administratively, the School is part of The Nottingham UK School of Economics, which is ranked fifth for research in the UK by the Tilburg University global ranking of economics schools and 38th in the world.

The successful candidate would be expected to teach at undergraduate and potentially postgraduate levels. Candidates with research and teaching interests in any area of economics are encouraged to apply, although fitting one or more of the fields in which the School has teaching or research needs would be desirable. One priority field is quantitative economics: Mathematical Economics and/or Econometrics. A second priority field is health economics, to work as part of the School’s Centre for Health Economics. A third priority field is experimental and behavioural economics, to work as part of the School’s Centre for Decision Research and Experimental Economics (CeDEx-China). The successful candidate will contribute to developments that will enhance the School’s reputation as a recognised centre of excellence in research and teaching. He or she will be expected to conduct innovative research leading to publication in top-ranking economics journals on a sustained basis; to deliver high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to assist with the administration of the School.

Salary is competitive and negotiable depending on skills and experience. In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of up to 5 years starting either on 17 February or 1 September 2020. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
