We are seeking to appoint a transformational leader with international standing to provide leadership for the University’s Learning and Teaching and academic development across the institution. The successful candidate will be an academic leader with extensive demonstrable experience in delivering high quality, student-centred learning and teaching, underpinned by academic scholarship, and have a proven track record of leading successful change, innovation and enhancing institutional reputation. The successful candidate will have an in depth understanding of the Higher Education Sector and be able to bring national and global innovations in practice into the university, encouraging debate and discussion at all levels.
Leading innovation in the use of technology in learning, teaching and assessment will be core to this role. In addition, the post holder will be expected to advise the University on transformation of learning spaces and pedagogical approaches designed to meet a range of student needs. Working with the wider team and colleagues across the university to build scholarly activity, educational research and the promotion of a high quality student and staff experiences will be central to the role. Acting as an arbiter in local, national and international issues, the role holder will provide advice to external bodies, nationally and internationally.
This role will provide strategic and operational leadership in learning, teaching and academic development, setting out clear planning and delivery targets. The successful candidate will work with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Learning, Teaching and Student Experience and the senior team to develop the Directorate strategic plan and the Department’s annual operational plan, to ensure that Academic Development and student learning meets the strategic needs of the University. In addition, the role will support the institutional approach to widening participation and student success, to ensure compliance with University KPIs and external benchmarks.
The role holder will be a key member of the Directorate senior leadership team and as such will work with colleagues from across the university to deliver the University’s corporate strategy and to achieve the Directorate and University’s strategic objectives. In particular, the role will lead on cross institutional aspects of learning and Teaching and the Student Experience Enhancement Plan, and will represent the University in sector discussions on identified streams of work and/or topics.
