(Senior Lecturer/Reader full time starting salary is normally in the range £51,034 to £59,135. With potential progression once in post to £77,108 a year).

The School of Metallurgy and Materials has collaboratively introduced a new undergraduate Aerospace Engineering programme and seeks to appoint a new Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Reader as part of our strategic plan to enhance our capability in this area. We are also interested in potential candidates at Chair level; interested candidates should contact the Head of the School of Metallurgy and Materials in the first instance. We are seeking a candidate with excellence in both research and education in the field of Flight Dynamics.

A Lecturer postholder will contribute to the whole range of research, teaching and administration. They will be initiating, conducting and disseminating original research. Their teaching will include a substantial contribution to the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment; and enhancement of the student experience or employability. The role will typically involve developing and advising others, including providing expert advice to staff and students, supervising and examining PhD students, and developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods. Lecturer duties regarding management and administration will involve contributions at Departmental and School level, and/or making an important contribution to some managerial/leadership activities. 

A Senior Lecturer/ Reader will contribute at a senior level on a sustained basis to the whole range of research, teaching leadership and administration. Their research will involve an established national and developing international reputation through significant original research work and a clear record of impact. Their teaching will include development and leadership of major teaching programmes or equivalent and enhancement of the student experience. Duties regarding management and administration will include leadership and management activity such as sustained high value impact knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Hold a higher degree relevant to the research/teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications
  • Significant research and teaching experience within the subject specialism (Flight Dynamics)
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on, manage and deliver research
  • Experience of contributing to teaching activities
  • Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels
  • Experience and achievement reflected in a growing reputation
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in planning, undertaking and project managing research to deliver high quality results
  • Extensive experience of applying and/or developing and devising successful models, techniques and methods
  • Experience and achievement in knowledge transfer, enterprise and similar activity
  • Success in designing, delivering, assessing and revising teaching programmes
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching, and advising colleagues

Senior Lecturer/ Reader

  • All of the above, with extensive experience of both research and teaching in Flight Dynamics and demonstrated competence in Management and Administration.
  • An excellent national reputation and a developing international profile through significant original research work and a clear record of impact
  • Successful and sustained supervision of doctoral students to completion
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching, and advising colleagues
