We invite applications to join our integrated teaching and research teams in the DMT Centre  For this role we are particularly seeking applicants who bring skills in Human Computer Interaction with a strong technical background. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with colleagues of the HCI group to create high quality research leading to publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings, and to assist in developing bids and partnerships for research funding. 
  • Teaching as a member of the HCI and Digital Media Technology team in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures at both undergraduate and graduate levels. 
  • Adapting and developing teaching materials and managing learning cohorts.
  • Ensuring the efficient delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures.
  • Setting and marking assessments and provide constructive feedback to students as part of a teaching team.
  • Seeking ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
  • Ability to work closely with industry partners to realise the centre’s aim to be an international authority in HCI research and practice.

Skills and Experience


  • Hold a PhD in HCI, UX, or a related applied technical computing subject, or have equivalent industry experience.  
  • Excellent working knowledge of interaction design, usability testing, experimental design, and statistical analysis (quantitative/qualitative). 
  • Applicants should have demonstrated excellent teaching in higher education or have presented to technical audiences in an industry setting. 
  • Experience of HCI/Usability for the web with experience of technical web development, using PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript.    
  • Excellent team working and communication skills 


  • Relevant teaching experience, with preferred experience in delivery of undergraduate and graduate programmes.
  • Eligible for Fellow status under the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Standards Framework.
  • Have a strong record of research and research publications. 
  • Experience of HCI and UX in an industry context.
