The Department of Sport and Event Management is a vibrant and future focused department that builds upon Bournemouth’s existing excellence and global reputation for the fusion of research, practice and teaching.
The Deputy Head of Department roles provide a career path for experienced academics who wish to advance their academic excellence in a chosen specialist subject through high quality output, and who under the direction of the Head of Department, can make a significant personal and team contribution to the developing reputation of their department in line with the University’s academic strategic objectives. The new Deputy Head of Department will support the Head of Department in providing strong leadership, implement strategic policy and ensure that the highest possible standards of excellence are achieved. The Deputy Head of Department will manage, lead, and effectively deploy a team of academic staff within the Department who individually and collectively contribute to the on-going development of an academically stimulating environment aligned to the strategic direction of the Faculty.
You will be qualified to Doctorate level or equivalent in a relevant field. You will have demonstrated significant research and/or education leadership and you will be committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement. These posts would be for an initial period of five years with the option for a further three years extension.
We welcome applications from all areas of expertise in sport and events, although are particularly interested in those whose work relates to the themes of identity, community and place; coaching, education and practice; sustainability; social inequality; disability; (mental) health and well-being; consumption; leadership and strategy; organisation and consumer behaviour; policy; management and marketing. We seek alignment with research that enables impact in relation to a broad agenda of social change and social responsibility across sport, physical activity and events and coheres around UN sustainable development goals.
