We are seeking a motivated post-doctoral researcher to develop statistical strategies which support genetic validation of therapeutic targets.
Recent availability of large-scale resources like UK Biobank, with genome-wide genetic data linked to thousands of diseases and related phenotypes now allow Phenome-wide association studies (PheWAS) and related analyses to be performed routinely. These assess the association of specific genetic instruments with a broad range of disease-related phenotypes. The goal of this two year post is to gain expertise in these techniques as they are currently used; to identify opportunities to improve the statistical rigour, and/or power (eg by exploiting additional information) of these methods; and to develop the methods needed to do do. This is a fantastic opportunity not just to develop methods, but to also apply them to real problems in drug discovery and development.
The post holder will have a PhD in statistics, genetics, bioinformatics or another relevant subject. They will have expertise in high performance computing and data analysis language such as R, Python or Julia.
The post is based within the Wallace group in University of Cambridge
(http://chr1swallace.github.io) and funded by GSK and Merck, giving an ideal environment to gain experience of scientific working in academia and industry. The post-holder will be predominantly based within the new Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease (https://www.citiid.cam.ac.uk), and it is envisaged the post-holder will also spend time in both industry locations, and will have regular face-to-face or virtual meetings with both industry partners.
