The University Counselling Service

The University Counselling Service has been in operation since 2009 and is a professional, confidential and free counselling service well used by the University community including domestic Chinese students, international students from all over the world,  and Chinese and international academic and administrative staff.  Counselling is provided in both English and Mandarin Chinese.  Since the 2017/18 academic year, the Counselling Service has been part of a broader Wellbeing Service which also includes Disability Support and Health Promotion. The University Counselling Service works within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework.  Chinese government guidance and mental health legislation is also taken into account in the service provision. 

Candidates must hold a professional counselling/psychotherapy/counselling psychology qualification at Masters Level or above and have obtained BACP accreditation/UKCP registration, or the equivalent licensure in their own country. S/he will be a counsellor/psychotherapist/counselling psychologist who is experienced in and able to offer short and long-term counselling/psychotherapy to both students and staff members of the University. Candidates will be required to counsel in English, and therefore must have a high standard of written and spoken English. They should demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in working with socially and culturally diverse client groups. Any of the following would be an advantage: fluency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese; significant post-qualification experience of providing counselling in a range of settings; experience of working in a university setting; experience in conducting psycho-educational workshops; experience of working within a mental health setting; experience of working abroad; experience of taking a leadership role within a team. 

Salary will be within the range of RMB 323,198 to RMB 488,374 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  An attractive package including employment service allowance to support accommodation and flight, private insurance will be provided for international appointments. 

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China for a period of 3 years starting 5 October 2020 or as soon as possible. The contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
