ACU’s Research Centre for Digital Data and Assessment in Education (DDAiE) examines digital disruption, assessment and data analytics as subjects of research, policy and practice in schooling reform and teacher education. The Centre is based in the Faculty of Education and Arts and works closely on research with the Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education and other ACU Institutes and Schools.

The Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education (ILSTE) is a national research institute and draws on both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and includes large-scale, longitudinal studies and meta-analyses. View examples of research here.

As Professor (Assessment and Learning), you will have an outstanding track record in the application and use of digital technologies in assessment, learning and measurement, and be expected to pursue a strong program of high quality research and to lead and contribute to refereed publications in top tier international journals and research monographs. You will lead publications and prestigious programs and funding submissions and work with a high performing multidisciplinary research team.

More specifically the role entails:

  • Initiating and sustaining research collaborations with industry and the development of conceptual and empirical research projects with related grant applications to attract funding from the Australian Research Council in the areas of speciality;
  •  Contributing to and lead investigations within a high performing multidisciplinary research team of internationally recognised scholars to advance their research;
  • Opportunities to develop inquiries concerning the application and use of digital technologies in assessment, learning and measurement, recognising the relationship between and use of assessment and digital resources (includes assessment for formative purposes, standardised large scale testing initiatives, and the use of data for system monitoring, cohort tracking and growth measurement);
  • At the program level, contribute to doctoral supervision and mentoring of early career researchers and the overall research enterprise of ACU’s education research which is well above world excellence standards.

*Explanation note: Continuing, in the Australian context, means there is no end date and would normally continue until such time as the staff member resigns or retires.

You will need to have:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline, i.e. in Teacher Education or, Assessment and Learning or Data analytics, Educational Technology Innovations or Digital Learning, with superior research knowledge and methodological skills and experience in the application of quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies suited to empirical and conceptual studies and longitudinal investigations;
  • Evidence of strong and sustained research achievement in being published in top tier peer-reviewed journals, attracting funding for prestigious programs and building research capability of early career and mid career researchers and doctoral candidates;
  • Evidence of significant experience in initiating, completing, sustaining and developing new research in partnership with industry and across universities.
