to be filled at the earliest possible date.
We are looking for a candidate (m/f/d) with an outstanding research profile in the field of international, transnational or comparative law. The candidate has demonstrated academic excellence through successful publications in international, peer-reviewed, relevant journals and takes part in international research collaborations. Successful acquisition of competitive thirdparty funding as well as leadership skills and experience in (co-)mentoring young academics are an advantage.
The successful applicant will be involved in the teaching of the faculty’s degree programme and will be responsible for the Law & Language Centre and all related activities, in particular the supervision of the Philipp C. Jessup Moot Court Team. He/She thus contributes to the internationalization strategy of the Faculty, which aims at preparing students for the challenges of an increasingly international legal profession and attracting a greater number of foreign students. The Centre offers a programme in Anglo-American law taught in English. In addition, the Centre organises classes on other legal systems in foreign languages (French, Spanish, Russian). Applicants should therefore have experience in research and teaching at an English-speaking university abroad and have a command of the English language, both written and spoken, at mother tongue level. Knowledge of German is not required; applicants who do not speak German should be prepared to learn German at least as a working language. Active participation in the academic self-administration of the faculty is also welcome.
The prerequisites for employment are a completed degree, pedagogical aptitude, a Ph.D. or doctorate and additional scholarly achievements in the subject area (habilitation or comparable scientific qualification). Appointment as a professor will be made as a civil servant for life, provided the legal requirements are met.
The FSU Jena intends to increase the share of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified female scholars to apply. Disabled persons will be given preference in case of equal qualification.
Further inquiries in English or German may be directed to the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Walter Pauly (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Applications should include a covering letter or statement explaining the motivation for the application as well as a full CV and the application form, a list of publications (specifying the 5 most significant publications) and a list of previously taught classes and should name two referees. They should be submitted electronically (one PDF < 2 MB) by September 15th, 2020 to: email@example.com.
