Role summary

This role will be responsible for a combination of data dissemination use case development and capacity strengthening of end users for the GRID3 programme. The role will require an in-depth knowledge of GRID3 datasets (population density rasters, geo-referenced data on settlements, infrastructure etc.) and other available country-specific data that can be used as inputs to analytics supporting decision-making in developing country contexts.

Responsible for all aspects of supporting the delivery of high-quality GRID3 data use, this role involves a significant amount of stakeholder liaison and user requirements gathering, as well as linkage with data producers to ensure that data is being correctly analysed and interpreted for application development. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying, exploring, developing, finalising and documenting robust, rigorous use cases and for disseminating the results in ways that can be easily understood by end users. 

Main Duties and Activities

Stakeholder liaison, engagement and assessment (30%)

  • Engage with in-country stakeholders and likely end-users of GRID3 data to understand their current and potential future use of the data
  • Build an understanding of data analysis needs among different end users and propose solutions for meeting these needs
  • Consolidate user requirements for future datasets, trainings, tools and/or other products and services into specifications for delivery

Data visualisation and dissemination (20%)

  • Develop ways of visualising analytical results (for static figures and dashboards) and develop code to produce maps and graphs
  • Produce presentations, reports, papers and/or other means of communication for delivery of analyses
  • Identify the need for web applications and dashboards for displaying and interacting with data

Technical Assistance and Training (30%)

  • Support the assessment of training and technical assistance needs of developing countries
  • Develop training materials and resources
  • Deliver training sessions, in-person and online, for GRID3 training courses
  • Provide capacity strengthening support to developing country governments

Experience & Qualifications


  • Demonstrated experience of user-engagement (using remote and in-person methods) and integrating user-experience in work produced
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis, statistics, or a data-related field
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems and geo-referenced data
  • Experience in reporting analytical findings and in data visualisation
  • Strong ability to combine quantitative analytical thinking with a thorough understanding of real-world human behaviours 
  • Experience of a coding language for data analysis (Python data analysis libraries (such as pandas, numpy and matplotlib) or R / MATLAB / Octave or equivalent)


  • Experience of working with government agencies, particularly in LMIC contexts
  • Experience of working on humanitarian and development data-related challenges
  • Good understanding of low and middle-income country (LMIC) contexts
  • Experience with UI/UX design
  • Contributions to the development of software solutions for data-related activities (data access, collection, cleaning, analysis, interpretation, dissemination)
  • Experience of writing well-documented, maintainable code (Python, R, etc.)
  • Experience with version control software (including Git)
  • Advanced university degree in quantitative data analysis or a related field
  • Publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated experience supporting successful funding applications
  • French language is considered an asset
