We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for someone with a passion for renewable energy who is looking to use their skills in wind turbine aerodynamics to make an impact on the social and economic development in developing countries.
You will join the energy research team in our large and diverse academic Department working within a team of world-leading scientists with over 50 research fellows and PhD students. The key aspects of the role include conducting and managing a programme of collaborative research, coordinating the research and training activities with collaborators, and publishing work in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and attending conferences and seminars.
The role provides an excellent opportunity to apply your knowledge of wind energy in real world applications and develop your transferable research and leadership skills. If you have a good first degree in mechanical engineering, a PhD or be close to completion of a PhD in the subject area, and an excellent knowledge of vertical axis wind turbine aerodynamics, design and experiments, then you are encouraged to apply.
Since the role involves significant collaborations with our overseas collaborators, you need to be willing and able to travel to developing countries such as Egypt for carrying out project related activities. You will also need to have a good knowledge and experience of wind turbine aerodynamics modelling, structure design and analysis, and wind tunnel tests. Excellent communication skills are also required.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to the greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
