Applications are invited for the post of Chemical Biology Teaching Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at University College London. We currently teach ~600 undergraduates registered in Chemistry as well as students who select Chemistry on the Natural Sciences programme and first year Chemistry for life scientists. We are anticipating a substantially larger intake of 1st year students in the coming year. The department also offers a number of Postgraduate Taught Masters courses with ~100 students per year.  We are adapting our delivery across our programmes in response to the Covid-19 emergency.

The postholder will become a member of the Teaching and Learning support team, which includes five Teaching Fellows currently, and will contribute significantly to enhancing the student experience in the Department. They will undertake appropriate teaching duties within the Department at undergraduate and masters level, appropriate to the background and experience of the appointee.

The Chemical Biology Teaching Fellow will develop and lead initiatives on the interface between Chemistry and the Life Sciences. This will include developing and delivering: computational practicals and projects in chemical biology, medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; courses in medicinal chemistry and related areas for chemistry and natural science students; and courses in chemistry for life science students. The appointee will take a central role in supporting the ongoing shift to online delivery, e-learning and connected learning across the department.

This is an open-ended appointment and is available to start immediately.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Chemistry or relevant related discipline, experience in teaching organic chemistry and chemical biology or medicinal chemistry at undergraduate or postgraduate degree level, experience in using computational methods in chemical biology and organic chemistry and experience and knowledge in advanced organic synthesis.

They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to staff and students in a teaching and learning context. Enthusiasm to acquire new work-related skills and a commitment to keeping skills and knowledge up to date is also an essential requirement.
