The School of International Journalism and Communication (SIJC) is committed to training strongly-needed practitioners with an interdisciplinary educational background, multilingual and multimedia competence, and intercultural communication skills.
SIJC has a multilingual, intercultural and interdisciplinary faculty team, consisting of teaching staff, foreign experts and journalists. It currently has 30 faculty members, among which 23 are full-time teachers, including 12 professors (11 doctoral supervisors), 4 associate professors and 7 lecturers. All the full-time teachers have doctoral degrees from prestigious universities, with overseas experiences either by way of degree programs or visiting programs, which enable them to teach journalism and communication courses in English proficiently.
In September 2019, SIJC launched "the Alliance of Multilingual International Communication Education(AMICE)", which currently has 27 member institutions, including Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies of China International Publishing Group, the China Daily website, School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University, the National Institute of Strategic Communication at Peking University and School of Journalism and Communication of Renmin University of China. AMICE endeavours to train young professionals in international communication who have an interdisciplinary educational background, multilingual competence and multimedia skills.
In addition, SIJC is the chairman institution of Committee on the History of Foreign Journalism and Communication of the Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication. It is also the branch editorial office of Global Communication, a magazine directed by China Media Group. Since 2018, SIJC has jointly released several industrial development reports with China Media Group, including The Annual Report on Global Communication Ecology (2018) and The Annual Report on Global Communication Ecology (2019), which have evoked considerable repercussion in the industry.
The School has built a stable partnership with China International Publishing Group, Xinhua News Agency, China media Group, China Daily, Phoenix TV, Beijing Media Network, Qianlong.com and China Automotive Review, etc. The students can apply for internship in these media outlets.
SIJC not only encourages students to study abroad, but also recruits international students, with the aim of promoting academic exchanges between Chinese and international students. At the undergraduate level, SIJC has exchange programs with the School of Journalism, Media and Arts of the University of Westminster, the “3 + 2” Joint Program with the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and other exchange programs with Barnard College of Columbia University, the University of Leicester in UK, the University of Queensland in Australia and Sofia University of Bulgaria. Meanwhile, it works with the University of Bolton in the United Kingdom to jointly run the MA degree program in international multimedia journalism.
