The Network & Security Services team plays a key role in the provision of services throughout the University. The team is responsible for the wired and wireless networks, data centre management, telephony services and information security. The role holder will work within the EPS-NSS team on the operation and administration of principally the data network systems with a focus on Cisco technologies.
Specifically, the role holder will be required to be a point of reference for others in the area of fixed data networking and be the lead engineer in the management and development of the networking services across the University.
Additionally, to work with team colleagues, internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure that the data network services are responsive and continue to meet the University's expectations.
The role also backfills network and firewall security and load balancing, and provides advice and recommendations on all other areas of the University campus network. Working closely with other engineers within the team to collaborate on best practices for wireless, voice, security and the principle role - data networking.
The role holder will be the point of reference for all data networking functions and although there is no personnel management responsibilities you will be expected to lead other staff members on 3rd line support issues through to conclusion, the role holder will consistently demonstrate a high level of experience and ability.
● Substantial relevant experience of supporting Cisco data networking systems
● Experience in supporting large multi-site data infrastructure
● Cisco CCNP or equivalent accreditation (routing and security) highly desirable
● Prior knowledge of deploying and supporting Cisco ACI and DNA technologies
● Managing data networks (monitoring/security/firmware upgrades)
● Prior experience working in HE environments would be a distinct advantage
