Our department
The Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering is a world-leader in research in marine technology. Our main interests lie in: Ship Design, Maritime Safety, Marine Hydrodynamics, Marine Structures, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Emerging Technologies, Offshore Renewable Energy and Alternative Fuels. The Department makes a significant contribution to National, European and International policy-making in Marine Technology research and its application. Our research also informs our expanding range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
We are currently seeking to attract new academic talent that is complementary to our broad research interests and teaching activity. We are particularly keen to receive applications from outstanding early career researchers working in the area of maritime engineering with emphasis on alternative fuels and their maritime applications. Depending on the skills and experience of the applicant, this may be a joint appointment with the department of Chemical and Process Engineering.
The opportunity
We would love to hear from you if you have a PhD and postdoctoral research experience; an emerging publication history in high quality academic journals; and research interests which align with this area of strategic priority – particularly if you already hold an external fellowship that can be transferred to us.
In keeping with our commitment to equality and diversity, we encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly those who can support our Athena SWAN activity, which inspires the advancement and representation of women in higher education. For more information on diversity and inclusion at Strathclyde, please see here.
* Your Fellowship will normally be at lecturer level (exceptionally, at senior lecturer (Grade 9) (£52,560 - £59,135) where you have a strong track record in research leadership) for 5 years, with the expectation that you’ll meet our promotion criteria within that period and be transferred to senior lecturer (or, where you’ve been appointed as a senior lecturer, Reader) level.
