The Graduate School at Manchester Metropolitan University provides strategic leadership and operational support for the University’s postgraduate research student (PGR) activities from enrolment through to award. 

The team provides expertise on: 

  • The administration and quality assurance of research degrees 
  • Skills development for students and staff 
  • Enhancements to the student experience 

 Please note this role is a 6-month secondment opportunity.

About the Role 

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Graduate School as a Research Degrees Manager in the Graduate School Operations team as a secondment opportunity. In this role you will manage and develop the effective running of Faculty-facing operations by leading a team of staff to deliver support for postgraduate research. You will work with senior academic colleagues, students and supervisors to ensure a positive experience throughout the student journey.  

The successful candidate will provide authoritative guidance to their team, academic colleagues and students on a wide range of issues, including the monitoring and management of student record, processes and milestones related to PGR study as well as ensuring compliance with our institutional Regulations and guidance documents. 

‘This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months. Internal MMU candidates can apply for a 6-month secondment with prior permission from their line manager’.

About you 

We are looking for enthusiastic and proactive colleagues who ideally have experience of managing busy administrative teams ideally in a Higher Education context. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be able to support the continuous monitoring and improvement of our business processes and contribute to a strong team-focussed ethos. 

You will have a keen eye for detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be able to write clearly and concisely, have a commitment to providing excellent service to staff, students and external stakeholders, and be highly organised. With a flexible approach to your work, you will be able to work both independently and as part of a highly focused team.
