The School of Arts & Social Sciences is seeking to appoint an outstanding Senior Lecturer within the Department of English which was launched in September 2017. The Department developed from a Centre of English in the Department of Journalism which integrated established postgraduate and research strengths in Publishing and Creative Writing. The Department’s BA (Hons) English was launched in 2016 as an innovative offering with a practice-based, interdisciplinary focus. The Department also houses MA and PhD English programmes.
The successful applicant will contribute to the development and delivery of excellent undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; work collaboratively with others as a member of an interdisciplinary team; support and mentor students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and undertake administrative and management activities appropriate to the role level, including holding strategic roles which underpin our continuing growth and success. In addition, the role will fulfil teaching and administrative duties appropriate to the position of Senior Lecturer.
The successful applicant will hold a relevant PhD and have demonstrable expertise related to both commercial and creative digital sectors of publishing and related scholarship. A key aspect of the role will be to have extensive experience at executive-level in the publishing industry as well as current experience of university programme administration. The appointed applicant will be able to demonstrate achievements as a university teacher and academic colleague, with a record of mentoring and supporting students, working collaboratively with staff, and planning, designing and improving both stand-alone and interdisciplinary programmes and modules in Publishing.
