Salary:

Assistant Professor: 29,046 – 31,993 RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 35,588RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in post);

Associate Professor: 36,127 – 38,967 RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 42,705 RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in post);

Senior Associate Professor: 43,353 – 45,941 RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 49,319 RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in post);

The Department of Applied Linguistics is a research-intensive environment with two MA programmes, which also contributes a Linguistics pathway on four UG programmes. We are also currently developing a Applied Linguistics Research Laboratory.

The Department of Applied Linguistics seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant/Associate Professor with a specialism in Psycholinguistics and an excellent track record of research relative to their experience. Additional expertise in the areas of First Language Acquisition, Second Language Acquisition, TESOL, and/or Multilingualism would be an advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the department’s research profile. The successful candidate will also be expected to deliver lectures and seminars in topics across our linguistics curricula, and to supervise PhD students. A willingness to develop Psycholinguistics modules at the UG and PG levels is essential. A contribution to academic administration will also be expected.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • A Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Psycholinguistics/Neurolinguistics, Cognitive Psychology/Neuropsychology, or related discipline is essential.
  • Experience with psycho- and/or neurolinguistic experiments is essential.
  • A strong track record of research in psycholinguistics, appropriate to stage of career is essential.
  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis using R and LME is desirable.
  • Experience with eye-tracking research is an asset.
  • A strong background in language processing in bilingual/multilingual populations is desirable.
  • Experience of Technology Enhanced Learning is desirable.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

Members of Academic Staff are entitled to subsidies for accommodation, travel, and children’s educational, medical insurance, and a one-time relocation allowance is provided. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday,” depending on nationality and personal circumstances.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS:

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.  Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for PRC work visa.
