About the team/job
EMBL is seeking a research technician to join Dr. Jan Korbel's group in the Genome Biology Unit. The post holder will work in a leading laboratory focusing on genomics and single cell technology-driven research projects. He/she will also work on specific research projects, alone or in collaboration with other lab members.
The post holder will be responsible for molecular biology and genomics experiments. In more detail, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for cell culture, multiple omics and single cell sequencing techniques and quality control steps. Tasks will also include, though not be limited to, Illumina-based genomic and transcriptomic sequencing library preparation, single cell template strand sequencing (Strand-seq), work with high-throughput liquid handling/robotic systems, cell culture work, flow cytometry and cell sorting, PCR/qPCR-based validations. The high sample number from various projects will require exact documentation, and thorough experimental handling. Duties will therefore include organizational and technical assistance within the lab.
The ideal applicant should hold an appropriate degree from a technical school or university (Masters or Bachelor degree or equivalent). Under specific circumstances candidates with a PhD and publications who wish to change their career path can also be considered (salary will be commensurate with experience). We are looking for an exceptionally qualified Research Technician who is well-organized, creative, highly motivated and likes to accept new challenges. Excellent communications skills and a working knowledge of English are essential. The post holder should be able to work independently, be communicative and should enjoy working in a team of young scientists within a highly collaborative atmosphere.
