The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering is one of five departments within the newly formed School of Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, General and Mechanical Engineering, led by Professor Antonio J. Gil. The School is one of four within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, led by Professor Kenith Meissner, Executive Dean and Professor Johann Sienz, Deputy Executive Dean. 

The Department is seeking applications from ambitious and talented individuals to join our academic team in 2021. This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant and highly regarded UK Science and Engineering Faculty, located on a beautiful beachfront campus in the city of Swansea. Swansea is a coastal city that is both picturesque and cosmopolitan, offering an excellent quality of life. Our stimulating, multidisciplinary environment enables and inspires excellence. 

In recent years, the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering has developed world leading research in sensor technologies, semiconductor devices, nanotechnology, micro- and nano-electromechanical systems, and communication and antenna systems. The appointed postholder’s primary focus will be on research excellence expecting to result in world-leading publications, attract competitive funding and generate impact in the real world. We especially welcome high-quality applicants with expertise in analogue and digital integrated circuits and systems, for applications in multiple areas mentioned above. It is expected that the successful applicant will develop synergy with existing areas of expertise within the Department.

The successful candidate would need to possess:

  • A PhD in a relevant subject area or a degree and relevant professional experience or qualification. Typically evidenced by Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area (e.g. Electronic and Electrical Engineering). Masters in a relevant subject area (e.g. Electronic and Electrical Engineering). PhD in a relevant subject area (e.g. Electronic and Electrical Engineering)
  • Regognised teaching qualification or equivalent or a commitment to achieve this. If the applicant does not have a recognised teaching qualification then evidence is required of a commitment to work towards Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or equivalent.
  • A record of research outputs and dissemination in quality publications or other media. Four internationally excellent outputs in the last five years. Success in securing resources to underpin original research. The value of such awards should be £22,000 per year, averaged over the last 5 years, as a Principal or Co-Investigator. Evidence of recognition for contributing to the discipline Evidence of peer recognition over the last 5 years. Presenting contributions at conferences, workshops, seminar and other appropriate events. At least one presentation with a national or international reach on at least 3 occasions in 5 years. Evidence of effective postgraduate research student supervision. Acting as first or second supervisor of at least 1 current Postgraduate Research student.
