Techne Studentships

Techne

Techne is excited to offer Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funding for up to 60 PhD students for September 2022 entry.

We welcome applications from talented individuals working across the arts and humanities to be based at one of nine higher education institutions in London and the south-east, Royal Holloway University of London, University of Brighton, Kingston University, University of Roehampton, University of Surrey, University of the Arts London, Brunel University, Loughborough University London and the University of Westminster. The world-class research and training environments of these institutions are enhanced by the partnership’s strategic relations with 13 non-HEI partner organisations ranging from The National Archives to the National Trust.

The vision and the training offered by Techne emphasises the interweaving of critical thinking, making, and reflexive action in the craft of research. More information on our areas of study can be found on our website. A link to a selection of videos giving information on taking an AHRC-funded PhD in the arts and humanities is available here.

There will be an on-line open evening hosted by the University of Westminster on Wednesday 29th September 2021.  Please register on Eventbrite.

Awards cover UK tuition fees and provide a stipend at the UKRI rate.  The UK fees and stipend for 2022/23 have not yet been announced but for the academic year 2021/22 the UK fees are £4,500 and the stipend is £15,609 (£17,609 if London weighting applies). International students will need to speak to the Administrator at their prospective Techne institution to see whether the difference between the UK and international fee can be provided.

How to Apply: please contact one of our Administrators at the Techne institution of your choice as each of our institutions has a different deadline and process for applications.

Eligibility:These PhDs are open to UK and international students.

Initial contact details at each member university and full details of how to apply are on the Techne website, but if you have any further questions please email techne@royalholloway.ac.uk.
