Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Fernanda Duarte and Chris Schofield for a period of up to 36 months. The project involves being part of an interdisciplinary team working to interface computational, organic and medicinal chemistry and clinical microbiology research to enable new antibacterial drugs for human and animal use. The postholder will be responsible for the development and application of computational strategies to identify new active molecules and study their mechanisms by means of molecular dynamics, quantum mechanics and machine learning.
Find out more about the Schofield research group at http://schofield.chem.ox.ac.uk/
You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of computational strategies, contribute ideas for new research projects and develop ideas for generating research income. You will be required to prepare scientific reports and journal articles and represent the research group at external meetings.
Applicants must hold a PhD in theoretical/computational chemistry or biophysics, or a related area (or be close to completion) prior to taking up your appointment. The research requires experience in applying molecular simulations and quantum mechanical approaches to the study of biomolecules. Experience with enhanced simulation methods and in application and/or development of QM/MD methods for biomolecular simulations. You must also have the ability to work supportively in a laboratory environment, to supervise and educate junior co-workers and take part in joint projects. Applicants must be motivated, enthusiastic, organised and willing to learn new techniques
The post will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA and is available as soon as possible.
You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, Thursday 30 September 2021. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
The University of Oxford is a Bronze Athena SWAN holder and the Department of Chemistry is a Silver award holder. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
