We are looking for a world-class academic in computer science to join the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at Birkbeck. The applicant will contribute to the research activities in the department and also to teaching in relevant areas of computer science. We are especially looking for applicants carrying out research in information, network or computer security that is complementary to our research groups (www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/research) and to one or more of our interdisciplinary research centres, the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics and the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab.

As a core member of our academic staff, you will contribute to the full range of activities within the department including a strong research culture, blended and face-to-face teaching, administration, knowledge transfer, and public engagement

To apply for this role, you will be an experienced academic with a PhD in computer science or a closely related domain, whose research preferably focuses on information, network or computer security with applications in cloud or mobile computing, digital healthcare, the IoT or other application field. Your research will make a major contribution to one of our research groups (www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/research) and to one or more of our interdisciplinary research centres, the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics and the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab.

Moreover, you will be:

- committed to excellence in research and teaching,

- research active, and have an interest in impact generating and public engagement activities, and

You will ideally have teaching experience, and experience in design, delivery and convening of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in modern software development, systems and networks, or information security.

You will also ideally have an understanding of Birkbeck, our principles of widening participation in higher education, and working with part time, and non-traditional learners from a diversity of backgrounds.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a presentation as well as attend an interview online for the post.

The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) is a world-class centre of expertise in algorithms, data analytics, data management, experimental data science, knowledge representation, and program verification.  We engage in a broad spectrum of both fundamental and applied research, host two research centres, the Birkbeck Institute of Data Analytics (www.bida.bbk.ac.uk) and the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab (http://klab.bbk.ac.uk), and are a core partner in the recently founded national Institute of Coding (www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/about/institute-of-coding).

Remuneration:

Lecture grade of the College's London Pay Scale which is £39,173 rising to £54,142 per annum

The salary quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
