Urban Data Analytics - Technical Project Manager

We are looking for a technical project manager to join our team. Your role will be to co-manage the DivAirCity project, a H2020 project funded by the European Union from 2021 to 2025. DivAirCity - https://divaircity.eu/ - is a 26-partner project that recognizes, accepts and celebrates differences of people in cities. It will start with enabling 5 city governments to address challenges of air pollution, climate change and social inequality by valuing human diversity and social inclusion. To achieve innovative, creative, culture-driven, green and carbon neutral urban societies, both from human viewpoints and data-driven perspectives.

Who we are: EcoWise is a multidisciplinary team of experts trying to deliver digital service to make the world a more sustainable place. We work on sustainable buildings, smart inclusive liveable cities and the circular economy. Our decision support tools help to achieve low environmental impacts, improved resource efficiency and circularity, and an inclusive healthy environment. We do this by developing smart analytics and cloud-based software solutions for local authorities, businesses and non-governmental bodies. Who you are: We welcome applications from candidates with ideally 5 years of experience in a research or consultancy position. The ideal candidate would be someone who has experience in urban data analytics service delivery with a demonstratable passion for impact delivery via new technologies and methodologies. You need to have a Master’s or PhD level qualification relating to data science and urban analytics. As an example of the type of backgrounds/degrees we are looking for: urban informatics, geography, geographic data science, applied social data science, urban science and planning, urban computing, urban data science and analytics, applied urban analytics, urban analytics and visualisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design research tasks and manage their delivery in European projects
  • Develop urban data management, processing and visualisation methodologies with the team
  • Utilise and deploy methods together with the network of project stakeholders
  • Collaborate with different project city teams to analyse urban data from a wide range of sources.
  • Develop urban data-driven insights that inform decision making
  • Lead the data analytics efforts of 2 experts and help build a future service delivery team
  • Support team learning sessions and building new resources when needed
  • Support delivery of privacy and security measures and manage compliance requirements

Requirements and experience:

  • Experience in processing real-time and static datasets including geospatial and urban data
  • Capabilities on data scope/gap analysis, quality assessment and data enrichment
  • Experience in applying data science and analysis in an applied research environment
  • Stakeholder engagement and management skills for user-centric data service design
  • Capabilities on environmental and/or social data analytics and assessment methods
  • Capabilities on use of software tools/services for data acquisition and processing, such as database solutions, data analytics tools, Python/R and similar capabilities
  • Good team player and leader, with ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders, resolve conflicts and prioritise deliverables
  • Curious about technology and innovation, demonstrating passion for positive change in the urban environment, through applied research

Additional bonus requirements:

  • Experience in EU research and innovation projects and collaborative research
  • Experience in data analysis involving social inclusiveness and diversity
  • Understanding of Data Warehouse solutions, Cloud Computing Environments
  • Ability to speak multiple languages

What we offer:

  • Start Date: October 2021
  • Location: Work from home + partial working from office in London, with international meetings (in compliance with health and safety constraints)
  • Contract type: Three-year contract with evaluation of extension
  • Duration: Full-time position
  • Line Manager: Emre Yontem
  • Salary: Foreseen £40K - £45K FTE based on above requirements, to be assessed depending on candidate’s experience
