Job description:

The Role

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint four Lecturers/Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering in any of our main areas of strength. We are particularly interested in strong researchers with expertise in any of the following:

  • Bioengineering, especially Biofabrication
  • Digital manufacturing
  • Mechanical power transmission systems for transport electrification
  • Hydrogen Energy systems
  • Computational fluid structure interaction

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Engineering Schools in the UK. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise bridges fundamental and applied aspects of engineering. We have four positions available on full time permanent basis.

The School of Engineering is widely recognised for the quality of its teaching and research. Based within the Mechanical Engineering & Marine Technology discipline and joining one of our Academic Groups, but with an interdisciplinary ambition, you will be expected to contribute to the further development of our expertise in areas of interest through supporting existing research initiatives, developing new ones, and contributing to teaching on our UG and PG Mechanical Engineering and Engineering programmes, and relevant industry focussed CPD programmes. The School aspires to grow its capability with strategic appointments that support world-class research.

Expertise in your research field should be matched by a strong research record, or potential to develop into a researcher of national/international quality, that builds on our strengths in the areas named above.

The School is widely recognised for the quality of its teaching and research and aspires to grow its capability with strategic appointments that support world-leading research, innovative teaching programmes and outstanding student experience. This position provides a significant opportunity for a highly motivated and productive individual to develop his/her research and teaching career, within a successful and supportive environment.

You will have growing international visibility, and contribute to the full spectrum of academic activities, including research, teaching and leadership, in a School that is committed to creating an inclusive environment, where staff and students are valued and respected and have equal opportunities to succeed.

We believe that a rich mix of people with different backgrounds will help us to create a Discipline in which intellectually ambitious academics will want to work and create a collegiate environment. Our diverse staff attracts a broad range of bright, active and engaged students.

We are keen to attract applicants who:

  • will actively contribute to all aspects of the Discipline, and the School;
  • have a strategic approach and see a wide range of options in their own work and the work of the School;
  • are enthusiastic and committed to new ventures and innovations in teaching

All applicants who fulfil the criteria are welcome. We are keen to offer opportunities to people from groups who are currently underrepresented. All applications will be considered on the merits, experience and qualifications of the candidate as these relate to the requirements and specifications of the post.
