The role:

An exciting opportunity has become available to work on a 24-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Exeter and SMART Manufacturing Ltd. The KTP will deliver and embed a new Multidisciplinary Design Optimisation (MDO) framework, that will help the company to optimise competing requirements in the design and delivery of complex, bespoke manufacturing machinery arising through the use of different tools such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and production planning software.  

The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Exeter and will be based at SMART’s premises in Bideford, North Devon.

Qualification / skills we require:

  • A strong first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Ideally this should include industrial project experience and/or some industry experience.
  • A high level of independent organisational and research skills.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for acquiring new knowledge and skills.
  • The ability to collect, analyse and interpret large volumes of real-world data.
  • High levels of adaptability and the capacity to drive forward a project in a dynamic and rapidly changing context.
  • Exceptional self-management, communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to present their work to a wide variety of audiences.
  • An aptitude for the commercial aspects of the work being undertaken; candidates who are able to demonstrate relevant industrial experience will be at a distinct advantage.
