The appointee will join the thriving Department of Psychiatry, one of the UK’s leading centres of academic psychiatry, and will be fully integrated with the nearby world-leading Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics. This will provide an excellent opportunity to build a major scientific programme in the neuroscience of brain functions and CNS diseases. The broad and integrated Oxford infrastructure, including the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre (dedicated to mental health and dementia), facilitates translational and applied research and therefore provides an unrivalled pipeline for taking scientific discoveries through to implementation in patient care. The post-holder will also participate in the governance of St Hilda’s College as a Trustee and member of its Governing Body and link with the College’s strong research interests in Clinical Therapeutics.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding, internationally recognised senior investigator with a proven record of research achievement in neuroscience, and a track record of working collaboratively across disciplines. They will play a leading role in building capacity in the further development of translational neuroscience research in brain functions and CNS diseases to identify potential therapeutic opportunities and to ensure that the University continues at the forefront of global research. Candidates’ research interests could range from ‘omics’ approaches through to cellular biology. Expertise in neuroscience as applied to mental disorders is desirable but not essential.
