The role

We are seeking to appoint a Mechanical Workshop Technician to our Faculty of Science workshop based in the School of Chemistry.

What will you be doing?

If successful, you will be expected to support Faculty Mechanical Workshop activities including manufacture, adaptation, repair, construction, design, and commissioning of a wide range of sophisticated research and teaching equipment, often based on emergent or early-stage concepts.

Using up-to-date mechanical workshop practical skills and knowledge, you will support the Workshop Manager and other workshop Technicians to identify solutions and achieve objectives for academic research and teaching work within the Faculty of Science and the wider University. Where appropriate, you may also train staff, students, and other technical colleagues in specialised techniques.

You should apply if

  • You can demonstrate detailed mechanical workshop knowledge and refined skills, resulting from practical experience in engineering workshop practice, such as milling, turning, fitting and tool making.
  • You are committed to customer care and providing a quality, high-precision service.
  • You have excellent IT skills and working knowledge of relevant specialist software, such as CAD and CNC systems.
