The Biodiscovery Institute is a collaboration between five schools (Medicine, SOLS, Chemistry, Pharmacy and The Vet School) across a complex series of Post Graduate research laboratory and office space spanning 3 buildings within a space of 9400m2 and housing 850+ people. 

This crucial role within the institute is based within a dedicated core support team and requires a prep room technician. The role holder must be an organised and flexible individual to provide day-to-day support in the operation of a busy media preparation and waste processing lab area. The main duties include preparing and sterilising laboratory reagents and media, washing and sterilizing of glassware, collection, and disposal of biological waste using an Autoclave.

Candidates must have a good standard of education, holding at least GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C in English, Mathematics, and a science subject. They should have excellent organisational skills, be able to prioritise work, work without close supervision, undertake manual handling and can communicate effectively with all levels of staff and students. 

This is a full time, permanent post. Hours of work are 36.25 per week, Monday to Friday; working hours pattern has some flexibility. Job share arrangements may be considered.
