Job Overview

Our Kingston University International Study Centre is looking for a Subject Leader- Accounting and Finance to plan and manage the delivery of a range of modules for the accounting and finance area. To provide support and guidance to the team of Academic tutors delivering these modules and to line manage several Academic Tutors.

Key Responsibilities

Line management and personal development

  • Manage a team of Academic Tutors to contribute to ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience.
  • Provide effective performance management of direct reports, including setting personal objectives and KPIs; regularly reviewing the performance of direct reports, and conducting formal performance reviews according to company policy and procedures.
  • Support the Head of Subject in recruiting new academic staff for the accounting and finance area as required and according to Study Group policies and procedures.

Academic and Operational Management

  • Design and oversee the delivery of teaching and assessment for an agreed set of modules in the accounting and finance area ensuring Academic Tutors teaching the modules are fully informed of the curriculum content, teaching schedules, assessment modes and deadlines; and ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience.
  • Ensure that all assessment for agreed modules in the accounting and finance area are prepared in a timely fashion.
  • Mark assessments and record and report on teaching and assessment activity, including ensuring data is submitted accurately and within deadlines.

Academic Standards, Quality Assurance and Enhancement

  • Ensure that the design and delivery of all courses in the accounting and finance area are conducted with reference to and according to Study Group’s, Kingston University.
  • Implement agreed actions from the Centre Action Plan relevant to modules in the accounting and finance area and ensure that Academic Tutors contribute to the implementation of agreed actions. 
  • Support Head of Subject in liaising with External Examiners for the accounting and finance area, providing information to External Examiner as required.
  • Support the Head of Subject in working with colleagues to monitor and observe teaching and learning activity and supporting Academic Tutors with continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices.
  • Analyse data and feedback from a wide variety of sources and monitor progress towards progression targets, planning and implementing remedial actions where necessary.
  • Contribute to the production of the Annual Monitoring Report, Centre Action Plan, and other evaluative and reflective documents, for submission to the Study Group (Provider) and the University.

Course validation, changes, and programme oversight

  • Prepare documentation for new modules for validation and for existing modules courses for re-validation.
  • Recommend course and module changes to the relevant Study Group or University committee or group and provide documentation to support the recommendation.

Partnership Liaison

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key academic contacts at the University for the subject area, ensuring a full understanding of relevant University curriculum content, assessment modes and quality policies and procedures.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Teaching qualification in the relevant subject.
  • Experience in teaching international students in the UK higher or further education
  • Experience in planning and running complex education courses in accounting and finance.
  • Experience of teaching in the accounting and finance area
  • Line management experience in a teaching and learning environment.
  • Experience in leading a team to achieve high levels of student academic performance and outcomes against agreed targets.
  • Experience of partnership working in the education sector.
