Would you like to conduct leading edge research to advance exercise medicine for people with cancer?

We are calling for applications to be considered for Research Scholarships which include a stipend of $30,000 AUD per annum (tax free) to undertake a PhD in the Exercise Medicine Research Institute at Edith Cowan University. The scholarship also includes a full tuition sponsorship worth $29,750 (Australian resident) to $36,300 (international) per annum plus support for conference attendance and research expenses.

The Exercise Medicine Research Institute is recognised as a World leader in the field of exercise oncology, the application of exercise as medicine for people with cancer and our work has driven major changes in best practice patient supportive care at the State, National and International level. Your research program will be developed in consultation with your supervisory team within the following the broad areas:

  1. Determining the biological mechanisms through which various exercise prescriptions produce an anti-tumour environment within the body to suppress development and proliferation of cancer cells.
  2. Development and evaluation of targeted exercise and nutritional strategies to reduce side-effects and enhance effectiveness of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy for people with cancer.
  3. Effects of exercise medicine on mental health and quality of life for people with cancer.
  4. Exercise as prehabilitation preparing the patient with cancer for surgery or other therapies.

You will be based at the Exercise Medicine Research Institute at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia supervised by leaders in the field of exercise oncology.
